After the acute symptoms of tonsillitis are over, set the patient on a diet of fruit every other day three or four. In this scheme, three meals of fresh juicy fruits such as apples, Grapes, grapefruit, oranges, pears, pineapples, peaches and melons can be removed. The juice of fresh pineapple is most valuable in all throat afflictions of this kind after the all-fruit diet, the patient can gradually work towards a balanced diet on the following lines:
- Breakfast: Fresh fruit or raw grated carrots or other raw salad and milk. Prunes or other dried fruit can be added if desired.
- Lunch: Steamed vegetables, as is whole wheat bread and chapatti. Vegetables like bitter gourd and fenugreek are particularly favorable.
- Dinner: A salad of raw vegetables produced good size, sprouts seeds as mung beans and alfalfa seeds, wholemeal bread and butter or cottage cheese.
Raw vegetable juices are also helpful in treating angina. Carrots, cucumbers and beets separately or in combination are especially beneficial. Remember, use three parts carrot juice to one part and another part of the beet pickles.
